NESD FAQ!

Please read the FAQ before contacting HQ...

Do I need a ticket for NESD?

Yes! NESD is a ticketed event. You can make your pledge to dip at www.northeastskinnydip.co.uk

You will then receive a QR code in an email. We will use this code to sign you in on the day. Please have it ready for scanning upon your arrival. We can also check you in with your name. There is no need to print anything off!

NESD is a not for profit charity event and unless the event is cancelled pledges are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Why do I have to pay?

Primarily, your registration fee is a pledge to charity. At least 75% of your pledge and every single penny of your fundraising will go directly to Tyneside and Northumberland Mind to support local mental health services and local mental health. So far we have raised over £140,000!

Besides, NESD truly is a unique experience.

If personal funds are a problem choose the ‘Donate what you can’ ticket. No questions asked.

How do I get to Druridge Bay Country Park?

Here! Have a what3words link.

By car:

Druridge Bay Country Park can be found off the A1068, 30 miles north of Newcastle and 3 miles south of Amble. It is WELL signposted! On entering the grounds you will need to follow the road for almost a mile before you reach the welcome tent and the visitor centre car parks.

If you are travelling from out of the area please be sure to check the Tyne Tunnel website for up to date advice on fees and payments and closures etc.

By public transport:

On Saturday the nearby village of Hadston is well connected. The X18 from Morpeth and the X20 from Newcastle or Alnwick will drop you within walking distance of Druridge Bay Country Park. Please check the Arriva website for more detailed information.

There is NO public transport to arrive on Sunday morning. I recommend you find a friend with a car and fill it with NESDippers! Please join the official NESDippers group on Facebook to arrange lift-shares.

Can I camp over the night before NESD?

Camping at NESD is basic, capped and restricted to fully pledged NESDippers! Please select the 'Camp and Dip' ticket. Without a valid ‘Camp and Dip’ ticket you will be refused entry.

Camping is priced per person irrespective of your sleeping arrangements (Tent/campervan/caravan/car/grass/gravel…)

Limited facilities on site. No showers. No shops.

Camping WILL sell out. You can join the waiting list at www.northeastskinnydip.co.uk Please add ALL the names of those wishing to attend.

OR check out the alternative options below and remember that camping on the beach is still prohibited by Northumberland County Council.

Alnwick Youth Hostel

The Railway Inn, Morpeth

Cresswell Towers Holiday Park

Stay at the Bay

Walkmill Campsite

Coast and Castles Camping

May I bring my caravan/campervan to the event?

Yes you may! The same camping fees apply. Priced per person.

If you are bringing a larger camper or caravan we suggest you stay out of the potentially muddy field and set up in the car park.

If you require water and electric hook up you can book a hardstanding pitch by following this link. You must also purchase a dip ticket for every member of your party.

Are there safety people around?

Of course! There will be a medical team on land and a dedicated water safety cover team between 7am and 8am. There will only be water safety cover between these times.

You must not enter the water until you are given permission. If you do, you do so at your own risk and against advice.

I have a disability. Can I still join in?

Yes! Beach Access North East offer a free loan service of all terrain wheelchair equipment and will be glad to loan you a chair for our event. Please visit their website or contact them directly at info@beachaccessnortheast.org to discuss your options.

Blue badge holder? We may be able to arrange parking closer to the beach. Send an email to northeastskinnydip@gmail.com to check availability.

Can my children dip with me?

NESD is wholly inclusive as we strive to bring a little respite from the perpetual sexualisation of our human bodies. There is no minimum (or maximum) age limit. The decision to include your children (or your granny) is yours and their choice only. Your dependants must be accompanied at all times.

What if I want to raise extra funds for Tyneside and Northumberland MIND?

There is no obligation to fundraise on top of your pledge to take part. But many people do!

Should you wish, you may create your bespoke JustGiving fundraising page here. It’s simple. I promise!

Choose ‘Start Fundraising’, ‘Taking part in an event’, select ‘North East Skinny Dip 2023’, fill in the boxes, click ‘Create’ then share with your friends! Alternatively, choose ‘Give Now’ to make a one off donation or add your sponsorship.

Do I have to take ALL my clothes off though?

NESD provides a rare and unique opportunity to be naked in nature! Accept the invitation if you like. Step outside your comfort zone. Or choose not to. Respect your own boundaries in the moment.

Wear your shoes. Or a wooly hat. Or a wig. Or a mask. But please be mindful that NESD is NOT a clothed dip!

What do I do with my stuff whilst I swim?

You will leave it on the sand as you would if you swam outdoors at any other time! Numbered posts will help you locate your clothes when you get out. Remember your number!

Your belongings are left unaccompanied and at your own risk. Leave your valuables at home. And rest assured, not once has there been a reported theft at NESD.

What if my bare bum ends up on the telly?

The North East Skinny Dip is a hugely popular, mass naked event that gets national and international coverage as standard. For promotional purposes the media WILL be present! The only sure-fire way to guarantee your bare bum does not end up on the telly is to NOT take your clothes off on a public beach at a public event. Please be accountable for the consequences of your own actions.

(For perspective, most dippers will scour the web for weeks after the dip trying to locate that one special capture of their bare bum. So there’s that.)

Am I allowed to take pictures?

Photography at NESD has forever been a contentious issue. I have always requested discretion without much success. I have been working on a solution that respects the privacy of 1500 naked humans, aligns with the ethos of the event and upsets the least amount of people.

At NESD2024 we will be trialing a photography zone at the north (left/top) end of the dip. Please keep all recording equipment out of the main dip area and capture only the consenting individuals in your party.

Never upload any footage to social media without the permission of those featured. Some dippers, for whatever reason, simply cannot afford to have their naked body displayed on the internet.

Feel free to capture any clothed aspects of your NESD experience. Thank you for respecting your fellow humans!

Can I come and watch the North East Skinny Dip?

Absolutely not! The North East Skinny Dip is NOT a spectator event. Due to the sensitive nature of NESD and the subsequent vulnerability of those taking part you will not be permitted to watch the event under any circumstances. Wanna be there? Commit, make your pledge and join in!

Can I bring my dog?

Well behaved dogs are welcome. Keep them on a lead and under your control.

Will there be food available at the campsite?

There will NOT be any food available to buy at the campsite. There are several local pubs in the area accessible by car and The Golden Chippy about a mile away on Hadston Road. Please make arrangements accordingly. Alternatively, bring enough food with you for the evening.

Butt, butt, butt….?

~ NESD takes place in September to mark the Autumn Equinox. No, the water would not be warmer in June!

~ NESD will still go ahead if it rains. NESD is a bona fide celebration of the weather! We would only abandon NESD if there was an electrical storm.

~ You can go in up to your ankles or immerse your whole being. Embrace your freedom to choose.

~ Yes, it will be dark before dawn. Yes, you can pee in the sea. Yes, people will see you naked. No, you will probably not die.....etc. etc. etc.
